Basic Life Support (BLS) is a foundational course for healthcare professionals who respond in a team environment. It teaches the theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills needed to respond to medical emergencies, both as a single rescuer and as part of a resuscitation team.
The skills you learn in BLS will enable you to:
- Assess the scene and take safety precautions
- Recognize a cardiac arrest
- Activate the emergency response team
- Perform high-quality single-rescuer CPR and multi-rescuer team CPR
- Assist in airway obstruction
Duration & formats
- In-class training: about 4 hours, or
- Blended training: about 2 hours online plus 2 hours in-class practical
- Recertification: about 3 hours in-class, or 2 hours online plus 1 hour in-class practical
